Fishing Report: October 15 – 23, 2015

If this past week of October 15 – 23 is any indication, the 2015 – 2016 fishing season is going to be phenomenal and a hell’uva lot of fun.

My guides, chef, support staff, and I entertained 24 guests this past week. We had four couples, one party of four, one party of three, and one single angler and all had a great time. In addition to the catfish and piranha they landed they also caught almost 1,500 Peacock Bass. Read More

Mapinguari

Some tribes considerate it a God.

Others a demon.

Some say it eats the living while others say only the dead.

Regardless, all know it as the “Mapinguary,” a name that loosely translates to “the roaring animal” or “the fetid beast.”

While accounts vary, from village to village up-and-down the Amazon most agree that mapinguary (pronounced ma-ping-wahr-EE) stands between 8 to 10 feet tall when on two legs and is something of a cross between a giant sloth from prehistoric times and a gorilla. Its thick matted fur is said to reek so bad that those who encounter it in the jungle become dizzy or hypnotized. Read More

Adams, 15 lbs caught peacock bass

All good things must come to an end and so too does the fishing season here in the Amazon.

It’s been a great season but I’m ready to hit the port in Manaus. There, I’ll drop my 125 foot luxury yacht for a complete cleaning and overhaul and indulge a few “shore activities.”

The last three weeks have been a fantastic time and the main reason I’m slow to post my report.

Fishing Report For Jan 29 – Feb 06, 2015

Last week was the best week I’ve had on the Amazon in a long, long time.

And it had nothing to do with the fishing.

Although it was pretty great as well.

No, last week’s great time had everything to do the guests. They were a fantastic bunch. Just full of energy and ready and eager to try everything under the sun.
