The float plane landed just before noon and with it came all the kids from the neighboring villages to see what was on board.
Nothing for them this time I’m afraid (I have a dentist coming out here in a few weeks as part of Capt Peacock’s MARIA Program though. I’m sure they’ll like that. Ha!) No, what was on board the plane was all for the crew and me. It was a care package from our owner and newly appointed Texan Leonardo Leao. Inside the multiple crates were tortilla chips, jalapenos, hot sauces, limes, cilantro, a couple cases of Dos Equis beer, a bottle of tequila, some sangria, and a ton of seasonings. The enclosed note read:
Today is Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday celebrating the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Texans use this holiday as an excuse to eat, drink, and be merry.
I cracked a beer and passed the food off to our executive chef Saul to see what he could do for us. Soon, the 126 foot yacht was steaming with the smells of Mexico or, as Saul explained it, “More like Tex-Mex.”
“A day to eat, drink, and be merry,” I said aloud over my next beer. I’m surprised Texans need a designated day to do such.
